The invention provides a method for rendering petroleum oil as an essentially environmentally carbon dioxide-neutral fuel and source material. Carbon dioxide produced from petroleum oil combustion is captured, purified, combined with steam and light hydrocarbon fractions, or with hydrogen, and reacted under reaction conditions sufficient to form methanol and/or dimethyl ether, which can be used as fuel or feedstock for derived synthetic hydrocarbons and products.

La présente invention concerne un procédé destiné à transformer des lubrifiants pétroliers en carburant et en matières brutes quasiment neutres vis-à-vis de l'environnement en ce qui concerne le dioxyde de carbone. Le dioxyde de carbone produit lors de la combustion des lubrifiants pétroliers est capturé, purifié, combiné à de la vapeur et à des fractions légères d'hydrocarbures, ou à l'hydrogène, et mis en réaction dans des conditions réactionnelles suffisantes pour former du méthanol et/ou de l'éther diméthylique, qui peuvent être utilisés comme carburant ou charge d'alimentation pour hydrocarbures et produits dérivés de synthèse.
