An apparatus and a method of using the apparatus are provided for converting a gas stream containing hydrocarbons to a reaction product containing effluent molecules having at least one carbon atom, having at least one interior surface and at least one exterior surface, a first electrode and a second electrode with the first and second electrodes being selectively movable in relation to each other and positioned within the housing so as to be spatially disposed a predetermined distance from each other, a plasma discharge generator between the first and second electrodes, gas stream introducer and a collector for collecting the reaction product effluent produced by the reaction of the gas stream containing hydrocarbons with the plasma discharge between the first and second electrodes.
On décrit un appareil et un procédé d'utilisation de l'appareil pour transformer un courant gazeux contenant des hydrocarbures en un produit de réaction contenant des molécules résiduaires avec au moins un atome de carbone. L'appareil présente au moins une surface interne et au moins une surface externe, une première électrode et une deuxième électrode (lesdites électrodes pouvant être déplacées sélectivement l'une par rapport à l'autre, et placés à l'intérieur du boîtier de manière à être disposées spatialement à une distance prédéterminée l'une de l'autre), un générateur de décharge de plasma entre la première électrode et la deuxième électrode, un introducteur de courant gazeux, et un collecteur pour collecter l'effluent du produit de réaction résultant de la réaction du courant gazeux contenant des hydrocarbures et de la décharge de plasma entre la première électrode et la deuxième électrode.
