A system for high-speed data transmission using a television signal to communicate encoded data. A multi-level encoding method is employed whereby raw data values are converted into one of a plurality of voltage levels. The encoding method allows for improved data transfer rates, conservation of bandwidth, and self-synchronization for decoding. Mock timing data signals are generated to comply with television signal standards, such as NTSC, SECAM, PAL and HDTV.

Cette invention se rapporte à un système de transmission de données à grande vitesse utilisant un signal de télévision pour communiquer des données codées. Ce système de transmission met en oeuvre un procédé de codage multiniveau selon lequel des valeurs de données brutes sont transformées en un niveau de tension sélectionné parmi une pluralité de niveaux de tension. Le procédé de codage utilisé permet d'obtenir des taux accrus de transfert de données, une meilleure économie du spectre, et une synchronisation automatique perfectionnée du décodage. Des signaux fictifs de données de rythme sont générés pour assurer la compatibilité avec les normes de signaux de télévision tels que NTSC, SECAM, PAL et HDTV.
