A method of reducing the viscosity of invert emulsions and oil-based drilling fluids and well service fluids comprising such emulsions over a broad temperature range is disclosed. The method comprises adding to said invert emulsions of the invention a non-ionic surfactant alone or in combination with a co-thinner having the formula: R""-(C2H4O)n(C3H6O)m(C4H8O)k-H where R"" is a saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched, alkyl radical having about 8 to about 24 carbon atoms, n is a number ranging from about 1 to about 10, m is a number ranging from about 0 to about 10, and k is a number ranging from about 0 to about 10. The non-ionic surfactant is a reaction product of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide with C10-22 carboxylic acids or C10-22 carboxylic acid derivatives containing at least in position 9/10 and/or 13/14 structural units of general formula (I) where R1 is a hydrogen atom or an OH group or a group OR2. R2 is an alkyl group of about 1 to about 18 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group of about 2 to about 18 carbons atoms, or a group of the formula (II): R3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of about 1 to about 21 carbon atoms or an alkylene group of 2 to 21 carbon atoms.

L'invention concerne un procédé de réduction de la viscosité d'émulsions inverses, de fluides de forage à base d'huile et de fluides d'entretien de puits comprenant lesdites émulsions, sur une vaste plage de températures. Ledit procédé consiste à ajouter auxdites émulsions inverses de l'invention un tensioactif non ionique seul ou combiné à un co-diluant de formule R ?>= >=¿-(C¿2?H¿4?O)¿n?(C¿3?H¿6?O)¿m?(C¿4?H¿8?O)¿k?-H, R ?>= >=¿ représentant un radical alkyle linéaire ou ramifié, saturé ou insaturé, possédant environ 8 à environ 24 atomes de carbone, n vaut un 1 à environ 10, m vaut environ 0 à environ 10, et k vaut environ 0 à environ 10. Le tensioactif non ionique est un produit réactionnel d'oxyde d'éthylène, d'oxyde de propylène et/ou d'oxyde de butylène avec des acides carboxyliques C¿10-22? ou des dérivés d'acide carboxylique C¿10-22? contenant au moins, en position 9/10 et/ou 13/14 les unités structurales de formule générale (I) dans laquelle R¿1? représente un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe OH ou un groupe OR¿2? ; R¿2? représente un groupe alkyle d'environ 1 à environ 18 atomes de carbone, un groupe alcényle à environ 2 à environ 18 atomes de carbone, ou un groupe de formule (II) dans laquelle R¿3? représente un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe alkyle à environ 1 à environ 21 atomes de carbone ou un groupe alkylène à 2 à 21 atomes de carbone.
