Apparatus with two optical amplifiers (13, 14), each containing a pumping source (35, 36), an active medium (15, 15 1) such as a fibre optic, and a means of recovering pumping energy not used in the active medium in order to reinject it into the other amplifier (14, 13). The method of recovery (20, 20 1, 30, 31) is such that, in each amplifier, reinjection is carried out in the opposite direction from the injection of the main supply of power from the pump. Each amplifier includes a recovery terminal (22, 22 1) which serves as both the outlet from unused pumping power and an intake for the reinjection of pumping energy recovered from the other amplifier. A simple conductor (30) provides optic liaison between the recovery terminals (22, 22 1) and the two amplifiers (13, 14). The apparatus can be used as a repeater for the transmission of distant optic signals, particular under the ocean.
Dispositif à deux amplificateurs optiques (13, 14) dont chacun comprend une source de pompage (35, 36), un milieu actif (15, 15 1) tel qu'une fibre optique, et un moyen pour récupérer l'énergie de pompage non utilisée dans le milieu actif afin de la réinjecter dans l'autre amplificateur (14, 13). Le moyen de récupération (20, 20 1, 30, 31) est tel que, dans chaque amplificateur, la réinjection s'effectue en sens contraire du sens d'injection de l'énergie principale de la pompe. Chaque amplificateur comporte, par exemple, une borne (22, 22 1) de récupération qui constitue à la fois une sortie pour l'énergie de pompage non utilisée et une entrée pour la réinjection de l'énergie de pompage récupérée dans l'autre amplificateur. Un simple conducteur (30) effectue une liaison optique entre les bornes (22, 22 1) de récupération des deux amplificateurs (13, 14). Le dispositif est utilisable dans un répéteur pour transmission de signaux optiques à distance, notamment par voie sous-marine.
