A bone distractor, preferably an alveolar ridge distractor, having first aid second bone plates sized and configured to engage opposing bone segments and an interconnecting mechanism operatively associated with the first and second bone plates such that rotation of an activation screw causes the second bone plate to move with respect to the first bone segment. The distractor may also a housing having a first housing member operatively associated with the rat b>n5 plate and a second housing member operatively associated with the second bone plate, the second housing member being pivotally coupled to the first housing member such that the orientation of the second bone plate may be varied with respect to the first bone plate. Moreover, the second housing member may include a releasable closure cap so that the second bone plate may be easily removed and/or replaced, the second bone plate being provided in varying shapes and sizes.

Cette invention concerne un appareil de distraction osseuse, de préférence un distracteur de crête alvéolaire, comportant une première et une seconde plaque vissée dimensionnées et conçues pour venir au contact de segments osseux opposés et un mécanisme d'interconnexion fonctionnellement associé à la première et à la seconde plaque vissée de façon que la rotation d'une vis d'activation entraîne le déplacement de la seconde plaque vissée par rapport au premier segment osseux. Le distracteur peut aussi comporter un logement comprenant un premier élément de logement fonctionnellement associé à la première plaque vissée et un second élément de logement fonctionnellement associé à la seconde plaque vissée, le second élément de logement étant couplé pivotant au premier élément de logement de façon que l'orientation de la seconde plaque vissée puisse être modifiée par rapport à la première plaque vissée. De plus, le second élément de logement peut comprendre une coiffe de fermeture libérable permettant à la seconde plaque vissée d'être facilement retirée et/ou remplacée, laquelle seconde plaque vissée se présente sous diverses formes et dans plusieurs tailles.
