ABSTRACT An imaging device comprising a semiconductor body with an array of photosensitive elements arranged in rows and columns at a first portion of the body for generating and storing mobile charge carriers in response to incident radiation. The device contains a first means which has charge-transfer lines interdigited with the columns of the array for transferring stored charge carriers from the array. A second means defines at another portion of the body a charge-transfer shift register which receives from the first means a parallel supply of the charge information of a row of the array and provides a sequential output of this information. Each transfer line comprises an elongate resistive electrode which is insulated from the underlying portion of the body and extends alongside its associated column of the array and a means is present for transferring the charge storage information of each row of the array separately into the transfer lines. The resistive electrode is provided with connections for applying a potential difference along the resistive electrode to produce in the underlying body portion a drift field in the direction of the shift register for transporting mobile charge carriers towards the shift register.
