A piston position drift control (110) for a free-piston device (112). The control includes a passage connecting internal volumes of the device, the passage (122) being substantially shorter than an acoustic wavelength of the device; and a check valve (124) in the passage for controlling fluid communication between the internal volumes, the check valve having an opening pressure not less than approximately 20% of a maximum pressure differential of the device at a maximum stroke. The control is passive, requires no active control once in service, provides low susceptibility to damage or fouling, and is amenable to adjustment or repair if needed. In addition, the control is small and inexpensive, and functions across the entire operational range of a free-piston device it supports. A related free-piston device including the piston position drift control is also provided.

L'invention concerne une commande de dérive de la position de pistons (110) destinée à un dispositif à pistons libres (112). Cette commande comporte un passage reliant des volumes internes du dispositif, ledit passage (122) étant pratiquement plus petit qu'une longueur d'onde acoustique du dispositif, et un clapet de non retour (124) situé dans le passage de régulation de la communication fluidique entre les volumes internes, le clapet de non retour présentant une pression d'ouverture qui n'est pas inférieure à approximativement 20 % d'une différence de pression maximale du dispositif lors d'une course maximale. La commande est passive, elle ne nécessite pas de régulation active une fois en service, elle est peu susceptible de causer des dommages ou des encrassements, et elle peut être ajustée ou réparée, si nécessaire. En outre, la commande est petite et peu coûteuse et fonctionne sur la globalité de la portée fonctionnelle d'un dispositif à pistons libres. Cette invention a aussi trait à un dispositif à pistons libres comprenant la commande de la dérive de la position de pistons.
