In heat machines, mechanical power either exits by an exterior sink, as is the case with a heat engine, or enters by an exterior source, as is the case with a heat pump. This invention proposes the mechanical transmission of power from expansion device(s) and power source(s), to compression device(s) and power sink(s), by way of a differential power transmission. In its simplest and most exploitable form, the differential power transmission consists of a single stage planetary gear system having three points through which power may be transferred. These points are the sun gear, the planet gear carrier and the ring gear. Such a system allows for differential rotational speeds and torque between these elements, which in turn renders the system inherently stable, and widens its operational range.
