Methods and apparatus for alignment of vertebrae. In one embodiment, the invention includes a hook-shaped member (30) which receives a bone anchor (26), both the member and the anchor being fixed to a portion of bone. The assembly of hook and anchor are coupled to a surgical rod (22) by a cable (50) and connector.
