ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides a method for trsating pulmonary disease. More specifically, the present invention provides a method for treating diseases such as adult respiratory distress syndrome which result in oxidative stress that damages the cells of the lung. Pursuant to present invention, a method is provided that increases the intracellular glutathione levels of at least the cells of the lungs of a patient with pulmonary disease. To this end, a non-cysteine substrate that is a precursor for the intracellular synthesis of glutathione is administered to the patient. 19
