For scraping caked dirt from conveyor belts (20) in mines. The scraper blade (25) is coiled inside a housing (32), and dur- ing operation is locked to the housing (32). For wear adjustment, the blade (25) is advanced out of the housing (32) towards the belt (20): in the preferred embodiment, water is injected into the housing (32), which forces the blade (25), piston-like, out of a slot (52) in the housing (32). The housing (32) is mounted on a suspension system (63) attached to the belt fixed frame (30), and the housing (32) can bounce and rebound freely to cater for belt thickness variations, etc.
