A data packet communication system employs radio link control (RLC) transmission between a transmitter and a receiver with an Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) arrangement whereby polling of the receiver is accomplished with reduced amount of redundantly transmitted data, such as between an access node and terminal. Upon a polling event, such as emptying of a transmission buffer of the transmitter, expiration of a polling timer, or reaching a radio link control (RLC) protocol data units (PDUs) count threshold, the transmitter sends a polling command to the receiver. This polling command is smaller than any of the RLC PDUs by resegmenting to a variably sized PDU sending a reduced amount of data. With evolving communication standards tending toward larger PDUs, such as in excess of a kilobyte for HSPA+ (High-Speed Packet Access Evolution) and 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution), this inefficiency can be of increasing impact.
Selon l'invention, un système de communication de données par paquets réalise une transmission par commande de liaison radio (RLC) entre un émetteur et un récepteur grâce à un dispositif de demande de répétition automatique (ARQ) au moyen duquel une invitation à émettre est adressée au récepteur avec une quantité réduite de données transmises de façon redondante, notamment entre un nAEud d'accès et un terminal. Lorsqu'un événement nécessitant une invitation à émettre survient, tel que le vidage d'un tampon de transmission de l'émetteur, ou l'expiration d'un minuteur d'invitation à émettre, ou encore l'atteinte d'un seuil de décompte d'unités de données de protocole (PDU) de commande de liaison radio (RLC), l'émetteur envoie une commande d'invitation à émettre au récepteur. Cette commande d'invitation à émettre est plus limitée que celle de l'une quelconque des PDU RLC du fait d'une resegmentation calquée sur une PDU de dimension variable qui envoie une quantité de données réduite. Comme les normes de communication évoluent vers l'adoption de PDU de plus grande dimension, c'est-à-dire de plus d'un kilo-octet pour HSPA+ (High-Speed Packet Access Evolution) et 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution), cette inefficience peut avoir une incidence accrue.
