The invention relates to a method for preventing HCMV infection in HCMV seronegative human subjects and for preventing HCMV congenital infection in newborns, which method comprises administering an effective amount of a vaccine composition containing the gB antigen of HCMV in an OAV emulsion to the seronegative human subjects.
