A urinal structure is mounted on a wall and includes an outlet pipe in fluid communication with the basin of the urinal for disposal of waste water from the urinal during a flushing action. Outlet pipes of urinals tend to develop deposits of a usually gel-like residue which needs to be removed and cleaned away from the outlet pipe from time to time. The present invention provides a cleanout opening formed in the urinal structure in a position not more than 30° away from the horizontally disposed longitudinal axis of the outlet pipe, which opening is normally closed with an air-tight and water-tight plug; but when the plug is removed, access is made to the outlet pipe for purposes of cleaning the pipe. The invention recognizes that there may be several types of urinals, including standard urinals and siphon-type urinals, and the invention is applicable to both embodiments. Significant savings in time are achieved, because it is not necessary to de-mount the urinal from the wall. As well, there is less risk of exposure to toxins and spillage. The invention also provides for retrofitting existing urinals so that their outlet pipes may be cleaned without de-mounting the urinals from the wall.
