Abstract: "The Luggage Alarm Foot" is a simple device designed to prevent the theft of idle luggage left unattended within earshot of the owner. This device would be most useful on second class sleeper trains, station luggage racks, airport lounges etc., or anywhere that luggage is not given immediate attention. The device is weight activated and secured as a foot to the luggage, such that anyone attempting to lift (i.e. remove surreptitiously) without first activating the override switch, would cause a high pitched electronic alarm to sound. The override switch would turn the alarm off at the owner's convenience to prevent unwanted sounding of the alarm (i.e. when the owner wishes to move the luggage), this same override switch would then be used to reactivate the alarm when left temporarily unattended. A spring loaded switch which when depressed by the weight of luggage is in the "off" position, but which with the removal of weight becomes engaged to the "on" position, would be the alarm trigger mechanism. Independent of the override switch, the spring loaded trigger switch would thus rest in the "on" position, and be shut "off" only with the weight of the luggage. (i.e. or of course with the override switch) The alarm would be of the small electronic variety powered by a dry cell battery.
