ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sizing agent for papermaking with which the generation of stain on paper is controlled due to the decreased generation of stain at a drier site and which shows excellent sizing effect. The sizing agent contains the addition reaction product of linear internal olefins having a carbon atom distribution in which those having 17 or less carbon atoms comprise less than 5 weight % and those having 18 or more carbon atoms comprise 95 weight % or more, and maleic anhydride. - 19 -
