Description

A method for improving the adhesion of alkylated chlorosulfonated polyethylene (ACSM) and chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSM) rubber compounds to a resorcinol-formaldehyde latex (RFL) treated polyester reinforcing element using lower than conventional heat set temperatures comprising, dipping the element into a RFL dip comprising chlorosulfonated polyethylene; drying the element; heat setting the element at a temperature in the range from about 149 °C (300 ° F) to about 218 °C (425 °F) under tension; incorporating the element into the rubber compounds; and curing the element and the rubber compounds. Further, adding an amine functional polyacrylate to the RFL dip prevents failure of the adhesion of the cord at start up temperatures of about -40 °C (-40 °F).

L'invention concerne un procédé pour améliorer l'adhésion des caoutchoucs du type polyéthylène alkylé chlorosulfoné (ACSM) et polyéthylène chlorosulfoné (CSM), avec un élément de renforcement en polyester traité avec un latex résorcinol-formaldéhyde (RFL). Dans ce procédé, on utilise des températures de prise plus basses que dans les procédés conventionnels. L'élément de renforcement est plongé dans un bain de latex de résorcinol-formaldéhyde contenant du polyéthylène chlorosulfoné. Ensuite, l'élément est séché et chauffé pour assurer la prise à une température dans la plage allant de 149 DEG C (300 DEG F) environ à 218 DEG C (425 DEG C) environ, en maintenant l'élément sous tension. L'élément est enfin incorporé au caoutchouc et l'ensemble est vulcanisé. Par ailleurs, l'addition d'un polyacrylate portant des fonctions amine au bain de latex résorcinol-formaldéhyde empêche une rupture de l'adhésion de la corde aux températures de démarrage de -40 DEG C (-40 DEG F) environ.
