A method for communicating instructions to slave processors in a multi-processor system having a master processor and pipelined slave processors controlled by the master processor is described. The method uses a pass-through command having (i) a header block coded using a computer language understood by the slave processors and (ii) a payload block including instructions coded in a computer language understood by a destined slave processor. The pass-through command is transmitted to an outermost slave processor and then forwarded, without recoding, by intermediate downstream slave processors until the command reaches the destined slave processor. In one application, the method is used in a system adapted for processing video data or rendering graphics.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour communiquer des instructions à des processeurs esclaves dans un système multiprocesseur muni d'un processeur maître et de processeurs esclaves en architecture pipeline commandés par le processeur maître. Le procédé utilise un ordre de traversé comportant : (i) un bloc d'en-tête codé au moyen d'un langage informatique compris par les processeurs esclaves ; (ii) un bloc de données utiles comprenant des instructions codées dans un langage informatique compris par un processeur esclave destinataire. La commande de traversée est transmise à un processeur esclave le plus externe puis réacheminée, sans recodage, par des processeurs esclaves intermédiaires et en aval jusqu'à ce que l'ordre atteigne le processeur esclave destinataire. Dans une application, le procédé est utilisé par un système pouvant traiter des données vidéo ou un rendu de graphique.
