A system and method for allocating capacity in a hybrid cable television network transmits different channels on the same radio frequency sub~carrier of different carriers. This allows a part of the allocated downstream radio frequency spectrum to be reused by utilizing multiple carriers. Carriers selection at a downstream location determines which channel is received by any particular subscriber. In this way, services can be tailored to subscriber groups.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé d'attribution de capacité dans un réseau de télévision câblée hybride consistant à transmettre des canaux différents sur la même sous-porteuse de radiofréquence de porteuses différentes. Cette opération permet de réutiliser une partie du spectre de radiofréquence en aval au moyen de porteuses multiples. Une sélection de porteuses au niveau d'un emplacement en aval permet de déterminer quel canal est reçu par n'importe quel abonné. Des services peuvent ainsi être personnalisés pour des groupes d'abonnés.
