An electrolyte for an electrolyte-supported fuel cell having high power and a high mechanical strength, which comprises essentially a zirconium(IV) oxide (= ZrO2) doped with ytterbium(III) oxide (= Yb2O3), where the proportion of ytterbium(III) oxide is 3.5-6.5 mol%, based on the zirconium(IV) oxide, and the thermal expansion coefficient of the electrolyte material at 800°C is in the range from 10.6*10 -6 K- 1 to 11.1*10 -6 K-1, is provided.

L'invention concerne un électrolyte pour une pile à combustible à base d'électrolyte de haute puissance et de grande résistance mécanique qui comprend pour l'essentiel un oxyde de zirconium (IV) (= ZrO2) dopé avec de l'oxyde d'ytterbium (III) (= Yb2O3), sachant : que la part d'oxyde d'ytterbium (III) est de 3,5 à 6,5 % (mol.), relativement à l'oxyde de zirconium (IV); et que le coefficient de dilatation thermique du matériau de l'électrolyte à 800 °C se situe dans la plage de 10,6*10-6 K-1 à 11,1*10-6 K-1.
