ABSTRACT A method is provided for enhancing transmembrane transport of exogenous molecules. A complex between a water soluble vitamin and an exogenous molecule is formed and contacted with the cell membrane thereby initiating receptor mediated transmembrane transport of the vitamin complex. The transmembrane transport of exogenous molecules including proteins and polynucleotides, as vitamin complexes, has been promoted in plant, mammalian, and bacterial cells.
