Ce procédé consiste à faire réagir une composition (A) comportant du benzène avec une composition (B) comportant de l'éthylène dans une réaction d'alkylation favorisant la formation de polyéthylbenzène dans l'alkylat ainsi obtenu, puis à soumettre ce dernier à au moins une distillation-rectification pour obtenir un distallat (18) riche en di- et tri-éthylbenzènes et enfin à transalkyler à l'aide de benzène (22) ce distillat (18) pour son enrichissement en éthylbenzène.
