Soap-based clear cosmetic sticks are disclosed which include 2-methyl-1,3- propanediol in the composition to increase the set temperature, and also the stick hardness. A typical composition of the present invention comprises about 20 to 50 %, preferably 28 to 46 %, of 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, about 3 to 12 %, preferably 4 to 8 %, of an alkali metal salt of a C12-22, preferably C14- 18, fatty acid, about 10 to 42 %, preferably 18 to 30 %, of a polyhydric alcohol other than 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, and about 5 to 35 %, preferably 15 to 30 %, water. To achieve the highest set temperature the composition should also contain an alkali metal salt, preferably a sodium or potassium salt, particularly an alkali metal halide such as sodium chloride or an alkali metal chelate such as di-, tri- or tetra-sodium EDTA. The composition will also typically contain a cosmetic active ingredient such as a deodorant active. Preferably the composition will contain less than 0.3 %, most preferably less than 0.2 %, of C20-22 soap in order to achieve maximum clarity.

L'invention concerne une composition pour bâton cosmétique transparent à base de savon et qui comprend du 2-méthyl-1,3-propanédiol en vue d'augmenter à la fois la température de prise et la dureté du bâton. Dans une formule type, cette composition comprend environ 20 à 50 % (de préférence entre 28 et 46 %) de 2-méthyl-1,3-propanédiol, environ 3 à 12 % (de préférence entre 4 et 8 %) d'un sel de métal alcalin de type C¿12-22? (de préférence C¿14-18?), un acide gras, environ 10 à 42 % (de préférence entre 18 et 30 %) de polyol autre que le 2-méthyl-1,3-propanédiol, et environ 5 à 35 % (de préférence entre 15 et 30 %) d'eau. Pour obtenir la température de prise la plus élevée, il convient d'inclure dans la composition un sel de métal alcalin, de préférence un sel de sodium ou de potassium, en particulier un halogénure de métal alcalin tel que le chlorure de sodium ou un chélate de métal alcalin tel que le sel disodique ou trisodique de l'acide éthylène diamine-tétracétique (EDTA) ou bien l'EDTA proprement dit. En règle générale, la composition comporte aussi un ingrédient cosmétique actif, par exemple sous forme d'élément désodorisant actif, et elle contient de préférence moins de 0,3 % (plutôt moins de 0,2 %) de savon de type C¿20-22? afin d'obtenir l'effet de transparence maximum.
