The invention relates to a method for metering a medium which is gaseous or in the supercritical state, into a pressure reactor (1). The pressure reactor has a reaction chamber (13) which is connected to a stirrer dome into which the medium is metered at a predetermined volume flow or mass flow in such a way that the pressure in the stirrer dome becomes greater than the pressure in the reaction chamber. This prevents reactive mixtures from diffusing from the reaction chamber into the cavity. The invention also relates to uses of the method. For example, it can be used for purging the pressure reactor, for protecting the stirrer drive, for cooling or heating the contents of the reaction chamber, for regulating the reaction rate, for metering a reactant into the reaction chamber and for controlled charging or pressure release of the pressure reactor. The invention also relates to an apparatus for metering a medium which is gaseous or in the supercritical state.
