More particularly, this invention relates to pharmaceutically effective compositions for treating or preventing AIDS, ARC, and HIV infection that are characterized by an immunologically effective amount of a soluble T4 protein which elicits in a treated patient the formation of antibodies to the soluble T4 protein or, alternatively, the release of other proteins which, in turn, are effective to protect against or to lessen the spread, severity or immunocompromising effects of AIDS, ARC or HIV infection.
