A method is provided for optimizing fluoride ion uptake on teeth wherein a liquid dentifrice composition which contains in an orally acceptable vehicle an abrasive and a fluoride ion releasable fluoride at a concentration sufficient to release 3000 to 6000 ppm fluoride ion, the viscosity of the composition ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 cps. Fluoride ion uptake and its accompanying anticaries benefit is optimized when the composition is administered during tooth brushing.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'optimiser la fixation d'ions fluorure sur les dents, qui comprend la préparation d'une composition dentifrice liquide renfermant un excipient acceptable du point de vue des soins buccaux, un abrasif et un fluorure pouvant libérer des ions fluorure, en concentration suffisante pour libérer entre 3000 et 6000 ppm d'ions fluorure. La viscosité de cette composition est comprise entre 10000 et 50000 cps. La fixation des ions fluorure et les avantages anticaries associés sont optimisés lorsque la composition est administrée pendant le brossage des dents.
