In conveying material, the product being conveyed is normally carried on a moving belt. Skirting is installed along the edge of the conveyor installation to prevent the material from spilling over the edge of the belt. When conveying abrasive materials, the stationary skirting can experience severe wear as the moving material rubs against it. Also, the gap between the moving belt and stationary skirting is kept to a minimum to prevent spillage and jamming of the product being conveyed. Should the gap close so that the belt comes in contact with the skirting, there is danger of damage to the belt - particularly if the skirting is made from a non-yielding material such as hard metal. In this invention, the metal skirting is manufactured with an elastomer protective edge to eliminate the possibility of damage to the belt should the gap close.
