TRIFUNCTIONAL POLYOXYETHYLENE DIAMINE DERIVATIVES (Docket No. 80,729-F) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Normally liquid trifunctional derivatives of polyoxy- ethylene diamines and unsaturated dicarboxylic acids useful as curing agents for epoxy resins are prepared by reacting an unsaturated carboxylic acid reactant selected from the group consisting of maleic acid, fumaric acid, anhydrides thereof and a C1 to C4 dialkyl maleates and fumarates with about 3 to about 3.5 moles of a polyoxyethylene diamine per mole of the unsaturated carboxylic acid component in the absence of a solvent with agitation at a temperature of about 30° to about 170°C. for a time within the range of about 2 to about 10 hours sufficient to evaporate water and alkyl alcohol reaction by-products, to thereby provide a trifunctional derivative having the formula: Image (I) wherein R represents a group having the formula: Image (II) wherein n has a value of 2 or 3.
