Adaptive call distribution in a telecommunications system comprising configurations of Service Switching Point (SSP) (15; 16) and Service Control Point (SCP) (17; 18) equipment. For back-up purposes the SCP equipment (17; 18) are configured to provide call services to customers (2, 3; 4) allocated to a particular SCP (17; 18). If two or more of the SCP equipment (17; 18) provide call services to a customer (2, 3; 4), the call distribution capacity of this SCP equipment (17; 18) in relation to such customer (2, 3; 4) is adaptively adjusted in accordance with the call handling capacity of the customer (2, 3; 4).
