A method of categorising businesses, organizations and individuals in order to facilitate geographically-based searching over the Internet, includes the steps of: (a) registering in a database the names of businesses, organizations and/or individuals; (b) for each name entry, registering a geographical location identifier; and (c) for each name entry, optionally registering further information such as address, telephone number, and information about the goods or services offered by the business, organization or individual; wherein each geographical location identifier indicates the precise geographical location at which the business, organization or individual is located.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de catégoriser des sociétés, des organisations et des individus dans le but de faciliter les recherches par critères géographiques sur l'Internet. Ledit procédé consiste : (a) à enregistrer dans une base de données le nom des sociétés, organisations et/ou individus ; (b) pour chaque entrée nominale, à enregistrer un identificateur de localisation géographique ; et (c) pour chaque entrée nominale, à enregistrer éventuellement des informations supplémentaires, notamment l'adresse, le numéro de téléphone, ainsi que des informations relatives aux marchandises ou aux services offerts par la société, l'organisation ou l'individu. Ledit procédé est caractérisé en ce que chaque identificateur de localisation géographique indique la localisation géographique précise où se trouve la société, l'organisation ou l'individu.
