In a call and connection separated network (10) that comprises a number of domains (14-17) the network has a layered structure that comprises a connection layer and a service layer. In each connection domain there is a connection control process for controlling hardware. In accordance with the invention an external network (11) is used to carry a transmission channel that originates from or terminates in the call and connection separated network. Such calls are referred to as inhomogeneous calls. A connection control process at the originating side of an inhomogeneous call uses a routing number to route said transmission channel through the external network. The routing number is administered by a service used by the control process at the terminating point of the call. The routing number, in a manner known per se, follows the signalling protocol of the external network.
Ce réseau à connexion et appels séparés (10), qui comprend un certain nombre de domaines (14-17), présente une structure stratifiée dotée d'une couche de connexion et d'une couche de service. Dans chaque domaine de connexion, un processus de commande de connexion commande le matériel. Selon la présente invention, un réseau externe (11) est utilisé pour porter une voie de transmission qui part du réseau à connexion et appels séparés ou se termine dans un tel réseau. De tels appels sont désignés appels non homogènes. Un processus de commande de connexion au niveau du côté émetteur d'un appel non homogène utilise un numéro d'acheminement pour acheminer ladite voie de transmission à travers le réseau externe. Le numéro d'acheminement est géré par un service utilisé par le processus de commande au niveau du point de terminaison de l'appel. Le numéro d'acheminement suit, d'une manière connue en soi, le protocole de signalisation du réseau externe.
