The mobile X-ray apparatus comprises a carriage having rear portion including first and second projections. The apparatus also comprises a plurality of wheels including a first driven wheel and second driven wheel being arranged essentially at the rear portion of the base; devices for controlling the rotation of the first and second driven wheels; and a handle. The handle has a first strain gage electrically connected to the device for controlling the rotation of the first driven wheel; a second strain gage electrically connected to the device for controlling the rotation of the second driven wheel; a mast; an articulating X-ray tube support arm having a first end engaged with the front side of the mast so as to allow the X-ray tube support arm to slide along the front side and a second end having a device for supporting an X-ray tube attached thereto; and an X-ray tube connected to the device for supporting an X-ray tube.
