A videocassette tape reel hub (40, 40') includes in outer cylinder (46) having a recep- tacle (62) formed as a recessed portion of the outer cylinder. A clamp (64) is receivable in the receptacle (62) to fasten tape to the reel hub (40, 40'). A balancing mass (66, 68) is formed within the outer cylinder (46) to balance the in- creased mass of the clamp (64) and receptacle (62).
