A method and apparatus for mapping a cellular bit stream (10) to a wireline modem waveform is disclosed. A received cellular bit stream (10) is applied to convolutional decoder (34) to decode class (I) speech bits (12) within each bit frame of the cellular bit stream (10). The decoder speech bits (16) are appended to the bit frame from which the decoded bits came, and a 40 bit frame marker (21) is attached to each bit frame (22). This modified bit frame is transmitted at 20 mS intervals to a wireline modem (18) to achieve a 19.2 KB/S bit rate. The line modem (38) maps the signal onto a waveform and transmits the signal to a PSTN network (37).

Procédé et dispositif pour mise en correspondance entre trains binaires cellulaires (10) et formes d'onde de modem à ligne filaire. A la réception, les trains (10) en question sont appliqués à un décodeur à convolution (34), pour le décodage des bits vocaux de classe I (12) dans chaque trame binaire desdits trains (10). Les bits vocaux (16) du décodeur sont ajoutés à la trame binaire, d'où proviennent les bits décodés, et un marqueur de trame (21) à 40 bits est associé à chaque trame (22). La trame ainsi modifiée est transmise à des intervalles de 20 ms vers un modem à ligne filaire (38), pour obtenir 19,2 kbits/s de débit. Ledit modem (38) établit la correspondance entre le signal et une forme d'onde, et il transmet le signal à un RTPC (37).
