A hypodermic syringe (10) comprising a barrel (14) for containing medicament or other liquid, movable piston means (16) including a shaft (40) provided with a chamber (42) and frangible chamber sealing means (20), needle mounting means (22) disposable within barrel (14), spring means (18) for imparting movement to needle mounting means (22) and restraining means (28) in barrel (14) comprising an annular structure (36) located towards first end (30) of barrel (14) extending inwardly thereof and containing a plurality of radially-extending weakened portion (38), wherein needle mounting means (22) when in a first position extends partway from first end (30) and is restrained from movement by engagement with restraining means (28), the restraining means (28) being operable to release needle mounting means (22) when piston (16) approaches first end (30) and then to engage and restrain piston (16) from reverse movement, the needle mounting means (22) on release having been propelled through frangible diaphragm (66) to a second position wherein it is received and retained within chamber (42) in a jamming relationship.

Celle ci se compose des éléments suivants: un cylindre (14) destiné à contenir un médicament ou un autre liquide, un piston mobile (16) comportant une tige poussoir (40) dans laquelle a été ménagée une chambre (42), un dispositif frangible (20) de fermeture étanche du cylindre, un manchon (22) d'aiguille escamotable dans le cylindre (14), un ressort (18) communiquant un mouvement au manchon (22) d'aiguille, un dispositif de retenue (28) situé dans le cylindre (14) et composé d'une structure annulaire (36) disposée à proximité de la première extrémité (30) du cylindre (14). Ce dispositif de retenue (28) dépassant vers l'intérieur du cylindre présente une pluralité de parties affaiblies (38) s'étendant radialement. Selon cette invention, le manchon (22) d'aiguille, lorsqu'il est dans sa position première, dépasse en partie de la première extrémité (30). Le dispositif de retenue (28) s'enclenche dans le manchon (22) d'aiguille, empêchant ainsi son mouvement. Le dispositif de retenue (28) se déclenche et libère le manchon (22) d'aiguille lorsque le piston (16) s'approche de la première extrémité (30) tout en s'enclenchant dans le piston (16) ce qui empêche le mouvement inverse. Le manchon (22) d'aiguille, libéré par le déclenchement du dispositif de retenue (28), a été propulsé au travers du diaphragme frangible (66) vers une seconde position. Cette position seconde correspond un escamotage et un blocage du manchon (22) d'aiguille dans la chambre (42) du poussoir.
