An object of the invention is to provide excellent operability in receiving a textual message. A call set-up signal representing that a textual message from a transmitter side is transmitted, and a textual message are received by a transmission and reception circuit without performing any response to the incoming call, and the received textual message is stored in a memory. Notification means performs a notification operation by the call set-up signal being received. The receiver can read the message by viewing display means. Thus, the message from the transmitter can be received in real time. Since it is unnecessary to respond to an incoming call, the receiver side is not charged. An incoming call operation is performed by operating a response button, and speech processing can be performed by use of a microphone and a speaker.
