A dock leveler (10) mountable in a pit including a rear wall (RW), the leveler including a deck (30) with a front end and that is capable of pivotal movement relative to the rear wall; a lip (40) capable of movement to a substantially coplanar position relative to the deck; and a bumper (20) mounted adjacent the deck front end beyond the lateral width of the lip (40).
