A separation process is described for separating a known material from a mixture of materials (which may contain unknown materials) using displacement chromatography. The process comprises passing a mixture of materials, including a known material to be recovered, dissolved in a liquid carrier, if necessary, through a first packed column and into a second packed column until all of the known material has passed through the first column and has been loaded onto the stationary phase packing in the second column. A displacement agent capable of being more strongly bound on the stationary phase packing in the second column than the known material, is then passed through the second column to displace from that column all of the materials in the mixture less strongly bound than the known material and then to displace the known material from the second column. The columns are then regenerated, preferably by passing a carrier direction through column 2 (in the forward direction of flow) and then passing the effluent from column 2 through column 1 in a reverse direction. The flow through column 2 is continued until all of the displacement agent has been removed from column 2. In one embodiment, a solvent is also counter flushed through the first columm to dissolve any precipitates therein.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de séparation d'un matériau connu d'un mélange de matériaux (qui peut contenir des matériaux non connus) par chromatographie à déplacement. Le procédé consiste à faire passer un mélange de matériaux, dissous dans une charge liquide, si nécessaire, dans une première colonne garnie ainsi que dans une seconde colonne garnie jusqu'à ce que la totalité du matériau connu ait traversé la première colonne et ait été chargé sur la garniture en phase fixe de la seconde colonne. On fait ensuite passer un agent de déplacement, pouvant être fixé plus fortement sur la garniture en phase fixe de la seconde colonne que le matériau connu, dans la seconde colonne afin de déplacer depuis cette colonne tous les matériaux du mélange fixés moins fortement au matériau connu, puis à déplacer ensuite le matériau connu depuis la seconde colonne. On régénère ensuite les colonnes en faisant passer de préférence une charge directement dans la colonne 2 (dans le sens avant de l'écoulement), puis en faisant passer l'effluent de la colonne 2 dans la colonne 1 dans un sens opposé. L'écoulement de la colonne 2 est continu jusqu'à ce que la totalité de l'agent de déplacement ait été retirée de la colonne 2. Selon un mode de réalisation, on fait également passer à contre-courant un solvant dans la première colonne afin de dissoudre tous précipités s'y trouvant.
