ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A drive shaft having high impact resistance, torsional strength and surface smoothness is disclosed, which is composed of a fiber reinforced plastic pipe and a fitting pressed thereinto, wherein the connecting portion of the fiber reinforced plastic pipe to be jointed over the fitting and that of the later have similar cross-sectional shapes; the ratio of the inside diameter of the cross section of the connecting portion of the fiber reinforced plastic pipe or the distance between the inside surfaces of its opposing sides to the outside diameter of the cross section of the connecting portion of the fitting or the distance between the outside surfaces of its opposing sides is smaller than 1.0 but not smaller than 0.98; the fitting is pressed into the fiber reinforced plastic pipe, with a liquid adhesive being preliminarily applied onto the mating surfaces, whereby the two members is connected to form an integral assembly. A process for producing such a shaft with high efficiency is also disclosed. - 43 -
