A bottle carrier (12) having a suitcase-type handle (44) connected to the top panel (14) by spaced fold line segments (58, 60). The top panel of the carrier includes apertures (96) adjacent the outer ends of the outer fold line segments. Tabs (90) at the outer ends of the handle extend through the apertures (96) into the interior of the carrier, thereby preventing tearing at the handle when lifting and carrying the carrier. The top panel is comprised of partially overlapping top panel sections (54, 56), and a central tab (86) integral with the overlapping top panel section extends through the central opening of the suitcase-type handle.
