A step wave power converter includes a plurality of transformers configured to receive DC voltage from one or more power sources. Each transformer includes a primary winding and a secondary winding and is further configured to supply a step for a step wave AC output. The converter includes a plurality of bridge circuits for controlling DC voltage inputs into the primary windings of the transformers in order to output the steps of the step wave AC output from the secondary windings of the transformers, and a pulse- width modulator for further controlling the DC voltage inputs into one or more of the primary windings.
