New herbicidal active substance combinations consist of (a) an arylsulphonylaminocarbonyltriazolinone of formula (I), in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 have the meanings given in the description, and/or a salt of a compound of formula (I) ("active substance of group 1"); and (b) one or several compounds from a second group of certain known herbicides ("active substance of group 2"). These combinations show synergistic effects at certain weight ratios and may be used as selective herbicides in various useful plant cultures. Typical examples are active substance com-binations of the Na salts of the compounds of formula (I) wherein R1 = CH3, R2 = OC3H7, R3 a COOCH3, and R4 = H(I-1) or R1 = CH3, R2 = OCH3, R3 = OCF3 and R4 = H(I-2) as active substance of group I and metribuzin as active substance of group 2.

On mentionne, comme exemples types, des combinaisons de matières actives obtenues à partir de sels de sodium des composés de formule (I) avec R<1>=CH3, R<2>=OC3H7, R<3>=COOCH3 et R<4> = H (I-1) ou avec R<1> = CH3, R<2> = OCH3, R<3> = OCF3 et R<4> = H (I-2), comme matière active du groupe 1, et la métribuzine comme matière active du groupe 2.
