Isolated polynucleotide molecules that encode mature, wild-type and imidazolinone-tolerant acetohydroxyacid synthase large subunit (AHASL) polypeptides, and the amino acid sequences encoding these polypeptides, are described. Expression cassettes and transformation vectors comprising the polynucleotide molecules of the invention, as well as plants and host cells transformed with the polynucleotide molecules, expression cassettes, and transformation vectors, are described. Methods of using the polynucleotide molecules to enhance the resistance of plants to herbicides, and methods for controlling weeds in the vicinity of such plants are also described.
L'invention concerne des molécules de polynucléotides isolées codant des polypeptides de sous-unités importantes de synthase d'acétohydroxyacide matures, de type sauvage et tolérants à l'imidazolinone (AHASL) et les séquences d'acides aminés codant ces polypeptides. L'invention concerne également des cassettes d'expression et des vecteurs de transformation comprenant les molécules de polynucléotides selon l'invention, ainsi que des végétaux et des cellules hôtes transformés au moyen des molécules de polynucléotides, des cassettes d'expression et des vecteurs de transformation. L'invention concerne enfin des procédés d'utilisation des molécules de polynucléotides aux fins d'amélioration de la résistance des végétaux aux herbicides et des procédés de désherbage à utiliser à proximité de tels végétaux.
