Process of catalytic decarboxylation of 2-ketoaldonic acids by nickel ions characterized by the fact that an aqueous solution of a 2-ketoaldonic acid is placed in contact with a vinylpyridine group carrier resin. The process readily yields ribulose, xylulose and erythrulose.
