An in vivo free-radical generator comprising silver ions supported on a specified carrier. It generates free radicals .OH in the presence of water. When supported on an ion-exchanger, the silver ions release gradually .OH radicals in the presence of water. The released .OH radicals act on cancer cells to thereby suppress the cell growth and disrupt the cells, thus making cancer therapy possible. When zeolite or silica gel is used as the carrier in an amount below a specified value, the carrier is innocuous for the human body and can readily be excreted. Thus this generator is suitable as a medicine which is brought to the target tissue in the living body, such as a cancer cell, and generates free radicals thereat for long without adversely affecting the other tissues so much.
