A fishing line sensor including a base, a shaft rotatably mounted to the base and a reel mounted to the shaft. The reel is rotatable relative to the base with the shaft. The reel is configured for winding and unwinding fishing line. A signalling device is mounted on the shaft and rotatable with the shaft and reel. The device includes a mercury switch switchable in response to rotation of the reel. An electronic siqnal producing element is activated in response to a switching of the mercury switch.
