The invention relates to apparatus (1) for separating constituents of a liquid containing solids, for example for the primary sedimentation of sewage; comprising an inlet (2) for a fluid mixture, a flow path which splits into a plurality of flow path sections in each of which there is separator means (3) having a plurality of baffle plates (4) through which the respective flow path sec- tions are arranged to flow in an upwardly inclined path whereby to separate heavier constituents from lighter constituents of the mixture, both flow path sections leading to an outlet (5) for tighter constituents downstream of the separator means and to a com- mon outlet (6) for heavier constituents upstream of the separator means (3).
