A medical device, such as a stent, for delivering a biologically active material to body tissue of a patient and a method of making such a medical device are disclosed. The medical device has a tubular sidewall, wherein the sidewall is comprised of a plurality of struts each having an outer surface, an inner surface opposite the outer surface, and at least one side surface adjacent to and connecting the outer and inner surfaces. The outer surface or the inner surface is covered at least in part with a first coating comprising a first polymeric material and a first coating material, such as a biologically active material, e.g., paclitaxel, paclitaxel analogues, paclitaxel derivatives, or a combination thereof. The outer surface or inner surface not covered with the first coating is covered with a second coating comprising a second polymeric material and that is substantially free of the first coating material. Preferably, the first coating is applied to the outer surface of the strut. The disclosed method allows for greater efficiency and control in applying a biologically active material on the medical device and reduces patient exposure to unnecessary amounts of the biologically active material.
La présente invention concerne un dispositif médical, tel qu'une endoprothèse, conçu pour distribuer une matière biologiquement active à un tissu corporel d'un patient, ainsi qu'un procédé pour produire un tel dispositif médical. Ce dispositif médical présente une paroi latérale tubulaire qui est constituée d'une pluralité d'étais présentant chacun une surface extérieure, une surface intérieure opposée à la surface extérieure et au moins une surface latérale adjacente à la surface extérieure et à la surface intérieure et les reliant. La surface extérieure ou la surface intérieure présente au moins en partie un premier revêtement qui comprend une première matière polymère et une première matière de revêtement, tel qu'une matière biologiquement active, par ex. du paclitaxel, des analogues de paclitaxel, des dérivés de paclitaxel ou une combinaison de ceux-ci. La surface extérieure ou la surface intérieure ne présentant pas de premier revêtement est pourvue d'un second revêtement qui comprend une seconde matière polymère et qui est sensiblement exempt de première matière de revêtement. Le premier revêtement est de préférence appliqué sur la surface extérieure de l'étai. Ce procédé permet d'appliquer une matière biologiquement active sur le dispositif médical de manière plus efficace et mieux contrôlée et de réduire les quantités non nécessaires de matière biologiquement active auxquelles le patient est exposé.
