The invention concerns a method for obtaining a decorative marking with good, hence long lasting, adherence. It essentially consists in providing a prior varnishing of the surface to be decorated, then in performing on the varnished surface, a thermal printing process using sublimation paper, previously printed with the selected decoration. The invention is applicable in particular to decorative marking of school and office items, for instance for decorating scissors blades.
